How to Help in Such Difficult Times

With Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) we all face difficult situations. Many of us lost loved ones, and we felt isolation, loneliness, fear and anxiety. Not to mention the worries of front-line workers, caregivers, nurses and all other people who put their lives at risk for the benefit of others.

(1) Hardship and uncertainty

For families facing hardship and uncertainty to the coming months, worries of lost jobs and business closures may be all-consuming. The governments have made some provisions in their supporting financial arrangements, but they will not be enough to assist all workers.

Broken relationships spurred on by high levels of stress, money worries, businesses collapsing, or loss of the breadwinner by death, as besides targeting the elderly and the Black and Asian communities, men seem to be more affected than women.

(2) How can society be helped to repair itself?

The amount of domestic violence has escalated beyond comprehension. People feel depressed, hurting, frightened and do not knowing where to turn for help. The uncertainty is exacerbated by the fact there is no certainty that there will not be further spikes of the devastating virus. Some countries have eradicated the virus and it has struck again.

We must remain strong, endure shielding and social distancing for a little longer and find peace in nature on our daily walks. I am lucky to have a garden where I am not stuck in a high-rise flat with many children.

(3) What have I done to support myself through such hard times?

I have found an online program from WHO AM I, and it breaks down the steps to becoming resilient and happy over 10 weeks. It helped me see the bigger picture, to wake up and remember who I am.

What attracted me were the great testimonials I read on the website that featured so much of what I experienced so I decided to give it a go. I am part way through and am feeling so much better; I am not an affiliate with this program but it might be something that will help you as well.

(4) Will there be a solution?

If you are lost, stuck, depressed or anxious, will there be a solution?

The answer to suffering and depression is education, not medication. Learning to observe your thoughts and emotions is the key to living an empowered and happy life.
