Leaders Selection: We Need Leaders, Who Are READY!

We Need Leaders, Who Are READY!

Timing is everything. If this can be the case, America and the world these days experience an unfortunate timing, because when there are great challenges to the health and well-being of the public or the world, as we have presently faced, we need leaders, who are READY, willing and able, to bring us through in the wisest way! Unfortunately, it appears to many people the opposite of what we are witnessing. A recent study, conducted at Columbia University, claimed that if we reacted early to COVID-19 Pandemic (just two weeks earlier, or so), tens of thousands of lives would have been saved, and much fewer would be infected with this virus. With that in mind, we will try to briefly consider, examine, review, and discuss, using a mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and its impacts and ramifications.

Characteristics that define future-ready leaders

(a) Relevant, reliable, responsible, responsive, realistic

While declaring a potential pandemic, a hoax and then minimizing its risks instead of proceeding in a relevant manner, many reliable actions have been avoided, or delayed! How is anyone being responsible and responsive to the needs of the public if he refuses to proceed in any way which does not directly align with the personal and political agenda of an individual, or self-interest

(b) Empathy, emphasis, energy, excellence

Is not comfortable for constituents, when they feel their leader is showing genuine empathy, and accordingly placing his emphasis? When some equates economic considerations with protecting human life, what message does this send? What message might energize followers to work together for the common good, especially today, by following sane and necessary public health measures, such as Social Distancing, and wearing a mask? Shouldn't we demand a focus on greater excellence, rather than just good-enough?

(c) Attitude, aptitude, attention, articulate

People need leaders with a positive and can-do attitude, combined with a well-developed, relevant aptitude and skill-set! When a person appears to be either not ready, willing, or able to pay keen attention to necessary, relevant, sustainable necessities, and articulates a polarizing message when we need to unify, that person is not ready for prime time!

(d) Delve deeply, determine/discover, deliver

Instead of looking back to the past, using generalizations and slogans, wouldn't we be better served and represented, if that leader consistently was willing to delve deeply in order to determine the best path forward! He needs to discover a realistic solution, and deliver on his promises, and the best strategic and action plan!

(e) You! Yes

Just like a leader, who must take personal responsibility for the common good, you must seek better representation! In order to make decisions correctly and wisely, instead of surrounding himself with yes-men, the holder of the land’s highest office must realize science, and data matters, etc.

Given the potential ramifications of electing people who are not ready for high public offices, shouldn't we make sure that we elect individuals in the future who are READY to serve and represent this nation in the best manner? It is up to each of us to pay keen attention, in the future, when we vote!
